Elizabeth McKay Field has been singing in public since she was eight years old and made her solo debut as the youngest-nun-ever in a summer teen theater production of The Sound of Music. She has decades of experience performing in opera, musical theater, oratorio, recitals and concerts. She uses the accumulated knowledge and experience to help her students succeed with their singing goals.
Liz was discovered, as a freshman at Oberlin Conservatory, to have an annoying and freaky gift of hearing what was working and not working in people's voices. The school hired her to teach non-majors and she has been teaching ever since, including teaching undergraduate musical theater majors at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) during her Masters Degree and doctoral studies. Her approach to teaching is from a functional standpoint. That is to say, she understands the anatomy and how the voice works, and builds it from there to be free and strong. Each voice needs a customized approach - since each person's anatomy and stage of vocal development is different. Indeed, each person's goals for their voice differ. There is no "one-size-fits-all" approach in her studio.
During her decades of private teaching Liz has helped literally hundreds of people reach their goals - adults who just want to sound better while singing Christmas carols at their family gatherings, professionals who need a re-calibration and re-balancing to keep their voices healthy, kids and adults who want to improve their singing so they have a better shot at that coveted role in an upcoming community theater production, older adults who want to get their voices back in shape, middle schoolers who want to attend a music boarding school for high school, high school students who want to get into an honors ensemble at school or go to NC Honors Chorus or Governor’s School, many high schoolers who want to pursue undergraduate degrees in music, pianists and organists and choral teachers who want to improve their singing to be better choral leaders…the list goes on and on.
Liz provides everything you will need to build your voice and polish your vocal talent for classical singing and all styles of musical theater.
